During this one-on-one cricket coaching session with Bakhte, we focused on developing her batting rhythm and ensuring she plays herself in before accelerating her scoring. The primary objective was to help her understand the importance of putting body weight through the ball to cultivate effective scoring zones against the off-spinner.
Initially, it took her a few deliveries to settle in, but once she found her timing, she seamlessly transitioned into her six-hitting mode, particularly through the leg side. This is a clear testament to the dedicated work we have put in over the last few months, building her muscle memory for leg-side play. The results are now becoming evident, as seen in the video.
Throughout the session, Bakhte displayed excellent balance, footwork, and hand speed. Her ability to transfer weight into her shots while maintaining composure under pressure was particularly impressive. The key breakthrough in this session was her realization of the importance of clearing her leading leg to create space. This subtle yet crucial adjustment prevents the spinner from cramping her up and allows her to access scoring areas more efficiently.
Looking back just two months ago, Bakhte had no leg-side game to speak of. Now, she is not only confidently dispatching balls to the boundary but also demonstrating the ability to dominate spinners with precision and power. If she continues on this trajectory, we may be witnessing the emergence of a Brian Lara-esque scoring style, particularly in the way she manipulates the field and finds gaps with elegance.
