Ben’s cricket journey over the past 12 months has been remarkable. Coaching him alongside his brother has been both rewarding and challenging, particularly in helping him grasp the physics behind the game. His commitment to improvement is evident—not only does he consistently apply what he learns, but within 24 hours of each session, he compiles and uploads his highlights to YouTube. This dedication allows him to review his progress, analyze key moments, and reinforce the lessons from training.
As we prepare for the upcoming season, our primary objective is to see Ben competing in 3rd and 2nd XI cricket. To achieve this, we are focusing on refining technical aspects of his game, particularly his balance and weight transfer. This session emphasized rebuilding his center of gravity to create a more stable base, allowing for improved shot timing and a smoother transfer of weight through his strokes. By enhancing these fundamentals, Ben will be better equipped to handle different bowling conditions and maintain control over his movements at the crease.
The second half of the session introduced a specific challenge—facing sidearm deliveries from around the wicket. This drill encouraged Ben to play the ball straighter and develop a stronger scoring game on the leg side. By replicating match-like scenarios, we aimed to improve his ability to adapt to different angles, ensuring he can rotate the strike effectively and find scoring options against various bowling styles.
Ben’s progression over the past year has been impressive, and his continued commitment to learning and self-improvement is setting a strong foundation for success. With focused training, match exposure, and the right mindset, he is on the right track to take his game to the next level this season.
